Sons and daughters of Ughievwen have been urged to instill good cultural values in their children.
This call was made by the Chairman of the Ughievwen Union, Asaba Branch, Comrade Hilary Dafiaghor, during a get-together and award ceremony held on Sunday February 9, in Asaba.
Comrade Dafiaghor indicated that the Ughievwen Union serves as the umbrella body for all sons and daughters of Ughievwen, both at home and in the diaspora. He highlighted the immense contributions of the Asaba Branch members to the socioeconomic development of the Ughievwen Kingdom.
He appealed to members to foster unity and contribute positively to the growth and progress of the kingdom. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government, led by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the ongoing development projects in the kingdom. However, he noted that more needs to be done in areas such as road infrastructure, education, healthcare, and human capital development.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. Reuben Izeze, represented by Stephen Dorume, urged the people of Ughievwen to teach their children the Ughievwen dialect of the Urhobo language. He stressed that good cultural and moral upbringing are essential in the lives of children.
Hon. Izeze also called on the Ughievwen people to support the M.O.R.E. Agenda of the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration, emphasizing that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
Others who spoke at the event, including Mr. Abraham Edjo, past Chairman of the Union; Comrade Elias Bodje, Secretary of the Union; Comrade Edwin Okiemute Ekpri, Secretary, Planning Committee and Mrs. Pretty Oniuwherin, commended the executive and members of the union for their resilience and unwavering commitment to its shared goals and objectives.
The event, which attracted sons and daughters of Ughievwen residing in Asaba and its environs, featured an award presentation to distinguished members of the kingdom. Honorees included Comrade Hilary Dafiaghor, Chairman, Ughievwen Union, Asaba Branch; Mr. Frederick Yoro, Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission; Mr. Victor Udi, Permanent Secretary, Government House; and Mrs. Joy Enwa, the immediate past Accountant General and Chief Edgar Badaseraye, Special Adviser to the governor on Community Development.
A posthumous award was also presented to Late Mrs. Lizzy Mukoro.
