The All-Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State have moved to shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, endorsing Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Ede Dafinone as their preferred candidates.
The decision, which political watchers describe as a calculated early signal, was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting in Sapele, where party leaders cited confidence in the leadership style and performance of the trio as the basis for their unanimous position.
The endorsement was backed by all 11 ward coordinators in the local government, underscoring what insiders described as a rare show of unity within the party’s grassroots structure.
The motion for adoption was moved by pioneer APC chairman in Sapele, Chief Lucky Esigie, and seconded by Mrs. Thelma Tonwe. It was subsequently approved through a voice vote and met with a standing ovation from attendees.
Speaking at the gathering, convener Chief Patrick Akamovba emphasized that the endorsement of Senator Dafinone was not symbolic but rooted in what he termed “visible performance and credible representation.”
According to him, the lawmaker has built a strong connection with constituents across Delta Central through his legislative record and constituency engagement.
Akamovba also issued a stern warning to potential aspirants eyeing the Delta Central senatorial seat, urging them to reconsider their ambitions. He argued that Dafinone’s entrenched political structure and growing grassroots appeal present a formidable challenge that would be difficult to overcome.
In what many observers interpreted as a subtle critique of previous leadership patterns, Akamovba noted that the current senator has ensured a more equitable spread of development projects across the district, rather than concentrating them in select areas. The remark has fueled speculation about shifting internal dynamics and emerging political narratives within the region.
The inclusion of Governor Oborevwori in the endorsement has further stirred political conversations, with analysts pointing to possible realignments and strategic collaborations that may redefine party loyalties and alliances in Delta State.
Observers believe the move by Sapele APC stakeholders signal more than routine political support. Instead, it reflects the early stages of what is expected to be an intense build-up to the 2027 elections, with parties and power blocs already positioning themselves for advantage.
As the political atmosphere gradually heats up, the Sapele declaration is seen as a clear indication that the contest for 2027 may have begun long before the official campaign season, setting the tone for what lies ahead in Delta State and beyond.
