The Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has commissioned a newly constructed eight-cart garage at the Ibori Golf and Country Club, reaffirming his support for the growth of sports and community development in Asaba.
The facility, commissioned on Saturday, was subsequently named in honour of the revered monarch in recognition of his enduring contributions to the club and the Asaba community.
Speaking on behalf of the Asagba at the event, Chief Afam Obiago, the Oganihu Ahaba, conveyed the monarch’s delight at the impressive standard of maintenance at the golf club and the cordial relationship among its members.
He described Asaba as a welcoming community that continues to accommodate people from different backgrounds while praying for the continued prosperity of the land.
“Asaba Community remains a melting point for all. The land we venerate blesses all and sundry. The land upon which this golf club is built will continue to prosper,” he said.
Chief Obiago also disclosed that the monarch had reviewed the itinerary for the forthcoming Asagba Golf Tournament and was looking forward to participating in the event.
Following the remarks, the royal delegation proceeded to the newly completed facility where the Asagba formally commissioned the eight-cart garage. Prayers were also offered for the continued growth, success and development of the Ibori Golf and Country Club.
Earlier, the Club Captain, Mr. Alex Joe, welcomed the royal delegation and expressed the appreciation of members for the monarch’s unwavering support, particularly towards the establishment of the new facility.
He also briefed the royal father on issues affecting the club, including the challenges of sustaining its green areas, while seeking his continued guidance and understanding over the inability of members to pay the traditional homage at the palace.
“Your Majesty, you have supported this club in many ways and we are not taking it for granted,” Joe said.
The commissioning ceremony attracted members of the Ibori Golf and Country Club, palace chiefs and other guests, highlighting the strong relationship between the traditional institution and the sporting community in Asaba.
