Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Olu of Warri, His Majesty OgiameAtuwatse III, CFR, for his leadership, peace-building efforts and commitment to the development of the Warri Kingdom as the monarch marks five years on the throne.
The Governor stated this on Friday at the celebration of the fifth coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri Ogaime Atuwatse 111 in Warri Delta State, where he described the monarch as a cerebral traditional ruler and peace-builder who had demonstrated strong commitment to the progress of the kingdom and Delta State.
Oborevwori said the Olu had, within the past five years, contributed significantly to efforts aimed at promoting peace, unity, development and stronger relationships among the various communities and ethnic nationalities in Warri.
He noted that the monarch had shown particular interest in development initiatives and had consistently identified with projects and programmes aimed at improving the lives of the people.
The Governor, while commending the Olu’s leadership, also noted that challenges within a kingdom should not always be attributed to the monarch, stressing the importance of the role played by traditional institutions and chiefs in maintaining peace and unity.
He observed that where disagreements or challenges arose, traditional leaders and other stakeholders had a responsibility to work together to resolve them in the interest of the kingdom.
The comment, which formed part of the Governor’s remarks at the anniversary, was made in the context of his call for greater understanding, unity and collective responsibility among stakeholders in the Warri Kingdom.
Oborevwori urged traditional rulers, chiefs, community leaders, youths and residents to continue to protect the peace and unity existing among the various ethnic nationalities in Warri.
He called for restraint and responsible leadership, urging stakeholders to avoid actions or statements capable of creating division or undermining the peaceful coexistence necessary for the continued development of the kingdom.
The Governor said the fifth coronation anniversary was an opportunity not only to celebrate the Olu’s five years on the throne but also to reflect on the progress recorded under his reign and the need for continued collaboration towards the development of Warri and Delta State.
He congratulated Ogiame Atuwatse III on the anniversary, expressing confidence that the monarch would continue to contribute to peace, cultural preservation, unity and development in the Warri Kingdom.
The anniversary celebration, themed “Global Homecoming: Celebrating Our Cultural Renaissance, Unity and Transformational Progress,” attracted prominent traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, captains of industry and other distinguished guests from across the country and the diaspora.
