The Wife of the Delta State Governor, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has reaffirmed her commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable women in the state through the third Delta State Food Bank Initiative, which will provide food items and additional cash support to 2,500 women across the 25 local government areas of Delta State.
Speaking at the event held at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori explained that the initiative was designed to support women who genuinely need assistance, ease their economic burdens and promote the welfare of vulnerable households.
She disclosed that 100 women from each of the 25 local government areas would benefit from the programme, with each beneficiary receiving food items and an additional ₦50,000 cash support to help meet essential household needs.
Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori said the initiative aligned with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which prioritises meaningful development and improved living conditions for the people of Delta State.
She noted that the state had continued to witness infrastructural development and the implementation of people-oriented projects, stressing that sustainable development required continuity, commitment and effective service delivery.
According to her, the Food Bank Initiative, introduced during the state’s anniversary celebrations, had become an important platform for extending support to women and families facing economic challenges.
Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori emphasised that development was a continuous journey and called for the sustenance of policies and programmes that directly improved the lives of the people.
She maintained that continuity was essential for consolidating the gains of the MORE Agenda and ensuring that the benefits of governance reached more residents, particularly vulnerable members of society.
The Delta First Lady also commended the chairpersons of the 25 local government areas for their participation and commitment to supporting vulnerable persons in their respective communities, noting that collective efforts remained vital to building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
Earlier, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Ezinne Lady Catherine Onyeme, in her welcome address, appreciated the participants and highlighted the importance of initiatives that promote care, compassion and support for women in need.
In a spiritual charge, Pastor Solomon spoke on the topic, “Whatever You Do for Christ, You Do for Others,” encouraging participants to embrace kindness, selflessness and service to humanity.
The Delta State Food Bank Initiative reflects the commitment of the Office of the First Lady to complementing government efforts in addressing the needs of vulnerable residents and strengthening social support systems across the state.
The programme also underscores the importance of extending the benefits of governance beyond infrastructure to include direct assistance for households, especially women who require additional support to provide for their families.
The high point of the programme was the presentation of cash gifts and food items to the beneficiaries by Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori. The women expressed profound gratitude to the Delta First Lady for the gesture, describing the intervention as timely and valuable in helping them meet their household needs.
The presentation brought the programme to a memorable close, reinforcing the message of compassion, generosity and collective responsibility towards improving the lives of vulnerable women across Delta State
